Job description

Drive the growth of a 401(k) advisory platform built to help employees retire on purpose.

Our client is a retirement-plan advisory firm with decades of combined experience in 401(k) plan design, compliance, and participant education. What sets them apart is a participant-first philosophy: while many providers optimize for fiduciary cover and an easier life at the corporate level, this firm's top priority is making sure the employees in the plans they manage can retire on purpose — at the time, and in the way, each one prefers.

This role drives the growth and distribution of the firm's 401(k) advisory and fiduciary consulting services across an assigned territory. You'll develop strategic relationships with companies whose current 401(k) plans exceed $5M, and serve as a growth partner who helps advisers and plan sponsors strengthen retirement outcomes for both employers and participants. It's a consultative business-development seat — equal parts relationship-builder, fiduciary educator, and territory owner.

What makes this role unique?

  • A consultative growth seat, not a transactional one. You build strategic relationships with plan sponsors and run joint adviser meetings, backed by real fiduciary consulting, cost benchmarking, and plan-design capabilities — not a commodity pitch.

  • A territory that's yours to own. With a strategic business plan and uncapped, production-based incentive comp on top of a competitive base, your growth is in your hands.

  • A genuine story to sell. The firm's differentiator is participant-level impact — helping employees actually retire well — which gives you something real to lead with in front of owners, CFOs, and HR leaders.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement a strategic territory business plan to achieve growth targets.

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with companies that need stronger 401(k) plan management, focused on plans above $5M.

  • Promote the firm's fiduciary consulting, cost benchmarking, plan-design optimization, and investment-oversight solutions.

  • Conduct joint adviser meetings with prospective plan sponsors.

  • Deliver presentations, educational seminars, and product-positioning discussions.

  • Support advisers in competitive analysis and proposal development.

  • Maintain consistent pipeline activity and clean CRM documentation.

  • Attend industry events, association meetings, and networking opportunities to generate new business.

  • Collaborate with internal consulting, compliance, and operations teams to ensure smooth onboarding and ongoing service.

  • Stay current on ERISA regulations, industry trends, and market developments.

The ideal candidate

  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in retirement-plan sales, 401(k) wholesaling, institutional sales, or adviser distribution.

  • Working knowledge of ERISA regulations and defined contribution plans.

  • A proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships, with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • The ability to work independently and manage a defined sales territory.

  • Preferred: a Series 65 license; a Maine Life, Accident and Health Producer license; direct experience working with financial advisers and plan sponsors; a CRPS, AIF, or similar retirement-plan designation; and familiarity with major recordkeepers and platform providers.
