Job description

Our client is an Registered Investment Advisor operating within a broader group spanning wealth management, insurance, mortgage, and real estate. The founder is building toward a true large-scale family office — investments, tax, estate planning, and real estate under one roof — and is explicit that he has yet to find a firm that does everything he intends to. This role exists to own the financial planning side of that vision.

The primary mandate is to take portfolio strategy, allocations, and plan construction off the founder's plate. You'll keep a close eye on client accounts as they relate to planning, build plans that account for tax consequences and the bigger picture, and serve as the planning brain of a practice that intends to manage a growing flow of incoming business. The firm provides the leads and relationships — this is not a prospecting role.

What makes this role unique?

  • A genuine equity seat. This is structured as a partnership, not a W-2 salary draw. You participate through an override — higher basis points across firm-wide revenue — so you benefit from everything the organization produces, not just your own slice. Because all the underlying businesses roll up into a single parent company, equity in that one company means you participate in all of them.

  • Built for two kinds of planners. If you bring an existing book, you get an immediate raise on your current basis points plus equity, and the firm's investment advisor representatives take over day-to-day relationship management so you can do what you do best — plan. If you don't have a book, you still start earning an override on everything the firm produces from day one, with clear upside as the business grows.

  • Ground-floor upside with a real path to partnership. The firm manages roughly $10M AUM today and is targeting $100M within five years, with acquisition opportunities in the pipeline. The founder is candid that culture and shared equity are how he intends to retain top people — "a seat at the table if you're willing to work for it."

What you will do

  • Own financial planning end to end — build plans independently, set portfolio strategy and allocations, and keep a close eye on client accounts as they relate to planning.

  • Plan for the whole picture — incorporate tax consequences, estate planning considerations, real estate, and the broader financial life of each client, consistent with the firm's comprehensive, family-office approach.

  • Work within the firm's tech stack (Orion planning plus an integrated risk tolerance questionnaire), and help shape tooling as the firm grows.

  • Absorb incoming business — as leads and relationships are fed in, manage the planning work while IARs handle client relationship management, so the planning function scales cleanly.

  • Be a partner in the build — contribute to a culture and a firm designed to grow and endure, not a transactional production seat.

The ideal candidate

  • CFP designation with at least 1–2 years of experience building financial plans without constant direction. This is not an entry-level role — you should be able to say "here's my take" rather than "what do I do?"

  • Independent / RIA-side experience strongly preferred over broker-dealer. The founder finds the transition smoother for those already used to the independent model.

  • Traditional financial planning expertise with solid tax awareness. Family-office or comprehensive-planning exposure is a strong plus, given the firm's one-stop-shop ambition.

  • Orion planning familiarity is a turnkey advantage. If you're already working in Orion with an integrated RTQ, you're plug-and-play; if not, the firm will get you what you need.

  • A CFP who thinks like (or aspires to) a CFA is a bonus — analytical, planning-driven, comfortable with the numbers — though portfolio construction is not the core ask today.
