Job description
Become the firm's in-house platform expert — and help build what comes next.
Our client is a growing independent RIA managing client assets across multiple offices and custodial platforms, having recently transitioned from a broker-dealer to full independence. That transition has created real complexity — data flows to build, integrations to stabilize, and custodial relationships to own — and this new role exists to centralize all of it into one expert seat. Today, custodial relationships and Orion platform management are distributed across the Director of Financial Planning, the operations manager, and a committee. Within a year, that all lives with you.
The firm has a consultant in place through the end of the year who will support the transition and help onboard this new hire. That's a meaningful advantage — but the expectation is clear: at the one-year mark, you own it.
What makes this role unique?
Real ownership from the start, with expert support behind you. The firm's Orion consultant stays through year-end specifically to help you get up to speed. After that, you're the authority.
A firm building toward something significant. The transition from broker-dealer to independent RIA is generating meaningful platform and data work — and the firm is actively investing in AI-driven data infrastructure. This role is at the center of that build.
Direct exposure to firm leadership. You'll work alongside the CIO, the operations manager, and the COO on issues that shape how the firm operates and grows.
What you will do
Take ownership of the firm's custodial relationships across SEI (primary), Fidelity, and Schwab — including account opening workflows, troubleshooting, and onboarding a third custodian platform.
Become the firm's in-house Orion and Redtail expert — the person advisors come to when performance data looks off, feeds aren't flowing, or configurations need to be explained.
Participate in ongoing data cleanup and integration work as the firm stabilizes feeds from prior broker-dealer systems and vendors including DTCC.
Manage a heavily customized Orion instance, working with the CIO's team to build and maintain documentation for models and configurations.
Proactively identify platform issues, flag them to the appropriate team members, and come to the table with solutions rather than just problems.
Collaborate with the operations manager and the COO on prioritization — especially in the early months — while building toward independent judgment over time.
The ideal candidate
Wealth management industry experience is required. This role cannot be learned from the outside — you need to understand the environment these platforms operate in.
Orion and/or Redtail experience is a strong differentiator. Not a hard requirement, but candidates who have it will ramp faster and make a more immediate impact. Experience with other portfolio management platforms (Black Diamond, Tamarac, Advent) is relevant but not a substitute.
Strong detail orientation and organizational skills — you'll be managing platform data across multiple custodians, fielding advisor questions, and tracking multiple workstreams simultaneously.
A problem-solver who comes prepared. The firm's advisors are digitally savvy and will ask hard questions. You need to be able to work through platform issues independently and bring answers, not just escalations.
A business degree or equivalent professional experience.
Process-oriented and methodical — the firm wants to move away from reactive firefighting and toward structured, documented workflows.
